The pieces are the result of the writing ‘Music Framework’, and John Lambert Harman's work in children's education and his interest in art. This collection illustrates some of his earlier styles of composition, and demonstrate his gift for melodic invention.
The titles of the pieces are important, and John Lambert Harman uses them to add meaning to the repetitive rhythms and simple melodic statements. This creates a pictorial juxtaposition with the already existing musical template: - ‘the pieces make use of very melodic lines whose allusions are grounded in a narrative suggested by their titles’.
The pieces reveal many influences, with Lutoslawski, Mozart and Sartie being among them, as well as jazz music.
